This Series, Written In Red, is broken up into four sets of prints, the first of which is the presentation of the song written by George Jensen which is presented on the Hymns and Songs page. The prints are actually taken directly from two songs:

  • Written in Red
  • Nothing But the Blood

Both verses of Written in Red are utilized and the bridge over to the refrain of Nothing But the Blood in included.  The second song is a Hymn written by Robert Lowry.

The First Design | Original Prints

With this first design, being able to utilize a photograph in the background was important.  Small roses were used, which are boutineers actually, which carry with them the deep red which most people can associate with crimson. Both verses are presented in the following:

Verse 1

In letters of crimson God wrote His love
On a hillside so long, long ago
For you and for me Jesus died
And love’s greatest story was told

Verse 2

Down through the ages God wrote His love
With the same hands that suffered and bled
Giving all that He had to give
A message so easily read

I love you, I love you
That’s what Calvary said
I love you, I love you
I love you written in red

By looking at each individual design, it is easy to see that the words of a phrase are taken from the song lyrics and paired up with a verse of Scripture.

The First Set | Verse One

This set of six designed images are taken from the first verse of Written In Red.

  1. Letters of Crimson
“Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.”
Isaiah 1:18 | King James Version
  2. God Wrote His Love
“But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him.”
    Romans 5: 8-9 | King James Version
  3. On a Hillside
“And he bearing his cross went forth into a place called the place of a skull, which is called in the Hebrew Golgotha: Where they crucified him, and two other with him, on either side one, and Jesus in the midst.”
John 19:17-18 | King James Version
  4. So Long, Long Ago
“Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.”
Hebrews 12:2 | King James Version
  5. For You and For Me Jesus Died
“Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross; And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it.”
Colossians 2:14-15 | King James Version
  6. Love’s Greatest Story
“This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you. Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends. Ye are my friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you.”
John 15:12-14 | King James Version

The design for this first set has a more white background of a damask design with all red lettering.

The Second Set | Verse Two

This second set of six designed images are taken from the second verse of Written In Red.

  1. Down Through The Ages
“Then they that feared the LORD spake often one to another: and the LORD hearkened, and heard it, and a book of remembrance was written before him for them that feared the LORD, and that thought upon his name.”
Malachi 3:16 | King James Version
  2. God Wrote His Love
“That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life. For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.”
John 3:15-17 | King James Version
  3. With the Hands That Suffered
“Searching what, or what manner of time the Spirit of Christ which was in them did signify, when it testified beforehand the sufferings of Christ, and the glory that should follow.”
    I Peter 1:11 | King James Version
  4. With the Hands That Bled
“And saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel.”
Mark 1:15 | King James Version
“And Jesus said unto them, Come ye after me, and I will make you to become fishers of men.”
Mark 1:17 | King James Version
  5. Giving All He Had
“Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.”
Colossians 3:16-17 | King James Version
  6. A Message So Easily Read
“Blessed is he that readeth, and they that hear the words of this prophecy, and keep those things which are written therein: for the time is at hand.”
Revelation 1:3 | King James Version

The design for this second set is much more bold with about a 50% white background of a damask design with all red lettering.

The Third Set | Bridge Over

This final set of six designed images are taken from the Bridge over to Nothing But the Blood, which is an integral part of the song Written In Red.

  1. That’s What Calvary Said
“Jesus cried and said, He that believeth on me, believeth not on me, but on him that sent me. And he that seeth me seeth him that sent me. I am come a light into the world, that whosoever believeth on me should not abide in darkness.”
John 12:44-46 | King James Version
  2. Oh Precious Is The Flow
“Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers; But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:”
    I Peter 1:18-19 | King James Version
  3. Makes Me White As Snow
“Many shall be purified, and made white, and tried; but the wicked shall do wickedly: and none of the wicked shall understand; but the wise shall understand.”
Daniel 12:10 | King James Version
  4. No Other Fount I Know
“For with thee is the fountain of life: in thy light shall we see light. O continue thy lovingkindness unto them that know thee; and thy righteousness to the upright in heart.”
Psalms 36:9-10 | King James Version
  5. Nothing But
“As obedient children, not fashioning yourselves according to the former lusts in your ignorance: But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation; Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy.”
    I Peter 1:14-16 | King James Version
  6. The Blood of Jesus
“Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus: Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God;”
Romans 3:24-25 | King James Version

The design for this final set utilizes a bold vine design with about a 50% white background design with all red lettering.
