Music

From the very beginning of the communication that Ms. Nancy and I have had with this series of prints, came this Hymn which I’d not heard before – The Love of God.  Each of the verses were applied to three different photos so the entire Hymn could be “hung” as a set – a first of it’s kind for this type of Series.  She sang it, having it upon her heart for some time, while during that time sharing it with me time and time again.

The Hymn is written and based upon Scripture – Romans 8:38-39 | KJV – which appears on the three initial prints for fronts and all of the design information which is printed on the back.  The sheet music is included here as an image, as it is Public Domain.

Scriptural Basis

“For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
Romans 8:38-39 | King James Version

HYMN: The Love of God | Frederick M. Lehman | 1917

First Verse:

The love of God is greater far Than tongue or pen can ever tell;
It goes beyond the highest star, And reaches to the lowest hell;
The guilty pair, bowed down with care, God gave His Son to win;
His erring child He reconciled, And pardoned from his sin.

Refrain:

Oh, love of God, how rich and pure! How measureless and strong!
It shall forevermore endure— The saints’ and angels’ song.

Second Verse:

When hoary time shall pass away, And earthly thrones and kingdoms fall,
When men who here refuse to pray, On rocks and hills and mountains call,
God’s love so sure, shall still endure, All measureless and strong;
Redeeming grace to Adam’s race— The saints’ and angels’ song.

Refrain:

Oh, love of God, how rich and pure! How measureless and strong!
It shall forevermore endure— The saints’ and angels’ song.

Third Verse:

Could we with ink the ocean fill, And were the skies of parchment made,
Were every stalk on earth a quill, And every man a scribe by trade;
To write the love of God above Would drain the ocean dry;
Nor could the scroll contain the whole, Though stretched from sky to sky.

Refrain:

Oh, love of God, how rich and pure! How measureless and strong!
It shall forevermore endure— The saints’ and angels’ song.

We should be “singing” as unto the Lord in everything that we do!
