What is Instant Messaging?

Instant messaging (IM) is a form of real-time communication between two or more people based on typed text. The text is conveyed via devices connected over a network such as the Internet. IM allows effective and efficient communication, featuring immediate receipt of acknowledgment or reply, that create the possibility of real-time text-based communication between two or more participants over the internet or some form of internal network/intranet.

It is possible to save a conversation for later reference. Instant messages are typically logged in a local message history which closes the gap to the persistent nature of e-mails and facilitates quick exchange of information like URLs or document snippets.

Instant Messaging LandingSpots must be monitored by at least one Moderator during establishment and communications so that appropriate language and content are in as near real-time placed on the desired Instant Messaging system in a timely manner.  If a Moderator is not available or unable to attend to the establishment of the Instant Message queue at any given time, posters will have to wait until an appropriate Moderator is located to moderate that specific Instant Messaging stream being utilized.

Moderator Distinction

This site and its Board Moderators makes final judgment calls on what qualifies as inappropriate content. Many services have options for private sharing and other publication options, DeliverTheWord.com will only allow verified users access of content posted within each respective LaunchPad, ReplacementActivator, LandingSpot and Moderated area.

The ability to tear down and defame others is a real risk to any Instant Messaging Stream. DeliverTheWord.com issues a warning of the dangers of allowing anyone without a clean track record to place messages in real-time to any Instant Message Stream, hence the reason our Instant Messaging system entry and approval areas are private and locked.

All Instant Messaging Systems are recorded and logged, for parental review, accountability or Moderator evaluation.  These features and precautions are established for everyone's protection specifically and may be expanded to include automatic e-mail sending to a parental/moderator e-mail account for review and accountability.
