This Series, I Will Call On The Lord, is one of  interesting beginnings…  This Bible study was sparked by a entry coming from Cary Schmidt of Lancaster Baptist Church / West Coast Baptist College via Twitter:

“The God of my rock; in him will I trust: he is my shield…”
(2 Samuel 22:3a)

This post was made at 3:25 PM, with 12 likes and 2 posts as of the developmental start of this devotional at 4:00 PM December 22, 2011.

A secondary post was made with the following post with verse, which got my brain to cranking a little more to take a look at the two verses in context of Scripture:

“I like that verse its inspiring – The Lord is My Strength & My Shield – Psalms 28:7”
by Reaching-Out Vinyl-Decals just a short time later at 3:57 PM Pacific Time.

My first thoughts were:

  • Why did David say that?
  • Who was causing the doubt?
  • Where did he go?
  • What did he want to do?
  • When did he choose to turn to God for help?
  • How did he come to the conclusion that God could be called “my rock” to him?

Earlier in the day a very good friend of mine and I were discussing what was weighing in on my mind – for it appeared to him that very little had been coming from me over the past several days.  He was right – this time of the year comes with many challenges as family struggles become very apparent and visible where throughout the rest of the year they are ignored for a large extent of time. That only gives the appearance of things being “kosher” and “fine”.  The largest struggles are with decisions we have made to do what God would have us do instead of just going with the flow of the world.

In both verses the LORD was “sung” to and “praised” for being the everything – of course it also helps that the person is the same TOO!

The word “deliverer” is what stuck out to me immediately of which the root of the word “deliver” is used in the King James a total of 636 times in the English language, with the following statistics:

  • Entire Bible (EB): 636
  • Old Testament (OT): 525
  • New Testament (NT):111

Interestingly, the following statistics also showed forth with a little more looking:

  • deliver: – 296 (EB), 267 (OT) & 29 (NT)
  • delivered: 291 (EB), 218 (OT) & 73 (NT)
  • delivers: 0
  • deliverer: 10 (EB), 8 (OT) & 2 (NT)

Take a look at the words that are similar between the two verses – they, along with the context of the verses, they are singing and praising God – trusting Him.  Does this give us a clue as to what we are to be and should be DOING???  Look at them again… Can you find the 12 “My” in these two verses?

Psalm 28:7 (KJV)

The LORD is my strength and my shield; my heart trusted in him, and I am helped: therefore my heart greatly rejoiceth; and with my song will I praise him.
Psalm 28:7 | King James Version

II Samuel 22:2-4 (KJV)

And he said, The LORD is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; The God of my rock; in him will I trust: he is my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my high tower, and my refuge, my saviour; thou savest me from violence. I will call on the LORD, who is worthy to be praised: so shall I be saved from mine enemies.
II Samuel 22:2-4 | King James Version

What I found is that it is not just “deliverer” that should be a defined focus, but a FAR GREATER set of truths of what He is to me – they are listed for us – look again, see them?  There are at least 34 which are listed here – the red ones are the “my” ones at first glance:

My Rock | My Is | My Fortress | My To Be | My Deliverer | My Him | My Shield

My He | My Horn | My Thou | My Salvation | My From Violence | My High Tower

My Call | My Refuge | My Praised | My Saviour | My So | My Strength | My Shall

My Trust | My From | My Worthy to Be Praised | My Will | My LORD | My Heart

My Help | My Song | My God of My Rock | My Shall Be Saved

My Greatly Rejoiceth | My Praise | My Savest Me | My Who

Sometimes we focus on the SMALL things, which may be limited in our sight, missing what is RIGHT in front of our faces!  Every WORD of the WORD is worth having our reading, heeding and leading by the direction of His establishing, that we might serve Him, by obeying Him and doing what He has established each of us to do.

It is a simple little set of truths, set forth for us by examination of a “jot or one tittle” and “add unto” / “take away from” as clearly shown to us in Matthew 5:18 (KJV) and Revelation 22:18-19 (KJV):

For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.
Matthew 5:18 | King James Version

“For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book: And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.”
Revelation 22:18-19 | King James Version

Was reminded on the morning of this “study” starting that as we face those times where decisions are being and need to be made, that it was a WHOLE lot easier to remember and say so in song.  His chorus recommendation this time:

Every Day With Jesus Is Sweeter Than The Day Before

Every day with Jesus
Is sweeter than the day before
Every day with Jesus
I love Him more and more.
Jesus saves and keeps me
And He’s the one I’m waiting for
Every day with Jesus
Is sweeter than the day before

Verse 1

I was thinking just the other day
How God has been to me
He’s opened doors and made some ways
Gave me the victory
Now I love the Lord
With all my heart, My mind, and my soul
And every day with Jesus
Is sweeter than the day before

Verse 2

Why don’t you give your life to Jesus
Now is a good time
No greater love in all the World
You will ever find
For his mercy will sustain you
And you’ll love him more and more
And every day with Jesus
Is sweeter than the day before

What is it that you are looking upon – is it what the Lord Jesus Christ would have you see?  What is in your heart to sing unto the Lord?  Here you MOST definitely will be looking at HIS Word and be exposed to honoring and uplifting music with which there are great HOPES that you will further do so!  We are to share, even when we think nobody is around or looking – because Someone is always looking…

How will YOU Encourage someone today by what you do or don’t do?
