Blessed Series

Our Testimony Should Encourage & Inspire Others Toward Jesus

Introducing

This series is dear to my heart for many different reasons, but one of the biggest reasons why, is the factor that MY Pastor is the one who preached the sermon (as he is the Preacher for most of them) – and – because it connected with me so clearly, as they should with each and every Christian…  One of the primary reasons is that they were delivered by the “Deliverer” Himself as recorded for us in Matthew chapter 5 verses 3 through 16, as all of this Scripture will be noted in red to signify that fact.

Main Focus

The focus verse, or launching piece of Scripture is from Matthew 5:16 (KJV), the very first part of the verse, being a charge to us:

Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.
Matthew 5:16 | KJV

Those references are supported by verses Matthew 5:13 (KJV) and Matthew 5:14 (KJV) as provided below:

Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men.”
Matthew 5:13 | KJV

Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.
Matthew 5:14 | KJV

These speak of being noticed and noted to watch over a city, which consequently is the final reference used for the hymn print “Blessed Be the Name of the Lord” in this series.

Scripture

This portion of the Scripture in the New Testament is commonly known as the B-Attitudes.

  • Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Matthew 5:3 | KJV
  • Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted. Matthew 5:4 | KJV
  • Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth. Matthew 5:5 | KJV
  • Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled. Matthew 5:6 | KJV
  • Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy. Matthew 5:7 | KJV
  • Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God. Matthew 5:8 | KJV
  • Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God. Matthew 5:9 | KJV
  • Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness’ sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Matthew 5:10 | KJV
  • Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake. Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you. Matthew 5:11-12 | KJV

While presented here in verse order, these verses are the building blocks for this series beginning with v16a, then v13a, and finally v14a (as discussed previously).

  • Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men. Matthew 5:13 | KJV
  • Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid. Matthew 5:14 | KJV
  • Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. Matthew 5:15 | KJV
  • Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven. Matthew 5:16 | KJV

The final two (2) verses set the stage of reminding us that no matter our circumstance, trial or place where we find ourselves, we are to “bless” the name of the LORD and “keep” the instruction we find within the sacred cover.

  • And said, Naked came I out of my mother’s womb, and naked shall I return thither: the LORD gave, and the LORD hath taken away; blessed be the name of the LORDJob 1:21 | KJV
  • Behold, I come quickly: blessed is he that keepeth the sayings of the prophecy of this book. Revelation 22:7 | KJV

Music

The final print in this series is “Blessed Be the Name of the Lord”, which lists Job 1:21 (KJV) as the basis for this hymn by Charles Wesley.  What a testimony that Job had of and for his LORD and God!
