Faith Forward

ARTWORK_AccordingToYourFaith_X7_8x10L_v1_07-AccordingTo-Texts-Header-423p

This Series was started many years ago as a study on the word “Faith”, as a very simple and wide reveal of the use of the word itself. An individual that has been a Christian very long has most likely heard the stories about the Bible telling us “not to worry”, which proof of that exists in the 365 times it was supposedly used in the Scriptures.  That statement is simply… NOT true.  Those kinds of “set up and fail to deliver” stories can cause others to doubt what the Word of God really does say, hence the reason that this Series has experienced some delay – really wanted to study it out and make sure the claim being made was so. It is…

What is claimed about Faith

Simply stated, the challenge of the use of the word Faith in the New Testament of the Holy Scriptures puts it’s use into the present, active and future continuing tenses.  Do the uses of the word “Faith” speak of the instant they are spoken/written, making them an active action happening right then and is set to carry on into the future for some time or possibly indefinitely? The results are limited to the word “Faith” on purpose – my personal study is much deeper digging, but this is NOT meant to be a presentation of a body of work, it is to show us how God has built a most Beautiful Scripture that has much to say about what He wants us to have RIGHT now, GOING forward and HAVING forever.

An example of this is found in the Theme Scripture for this Series, which is Matthew 9:29:

Then touched he their eyes, saying, According to your faith be it unto you.
Matthew 9:29 | King James Version

Presenting this in context will help us understand the portion of Scripture that this statement was pulled from, Matthew 9:27-31:

(27) And when Jesus departed thence, two blind men followed him, crying, and saying, Thou Son of David, have mercy on us. (28) And when he was come into the house, the blind men came to him: and Jesus saith unto them, Believe ye that I am able to do this? They said unto him, Yea, Lord. (29) Then touched he their eyes, saying, According to your faith be it unto you. (30) And their eyes were opened; and Jesus straitly charged them, saying, See that no man know it. (31) But they, when they were departed, spread abroad his fame in all that country.
Matthew 9:27-31 | King James Version

Matthew Henry’s Commentary on the Whole Bible for this passage (specifically verses 28 and 29) presents to us an insight of what our Faith emulation should resemble.

3. The cure that Christ wrought on them; he touched their eyes, Matthew 9:29 . This he did to encourage their faith, which, by his delay, he had tried, and to show that he gives sight to blind souls by the operations of his grace accompanying the word, anointing the eyes with eye-salve: and he put the cure upon their faith, According to your faith be it unto you. When they begged for a cure, he enquired into their faith (Matthew 9:28), Believe ye that I am able? He did not enquire into their wealth, whether they were able to pay him for a cure; nor into their reputation, should he get credit by curing them; but into their faith; and now they had professed their faith he referred the matter to that: “I know you do believe, and the power you believe in shall be exerted for you; According to your faith be it unto you.” This speaks, (1.) His knowledge of the sincerity of their faith, and his acceptance and approbation of it. Note, It is a great comfort to true believers, that Jesus Christ knows their faith, and is well pleased with it. Though it be weak, though others do not discern it, though they themselves are ready to question it, it is known to him. (2.) His insisting upon their faith as necessary; “If you believe, take what you come for.” Note, They who apply themselves to Jesus Christ, shall be dealt with according to their faith; not according to their fancies, nor according to their profession, but according to their faith; that is, unbelievers cannot expect to find any favour with God, but true believers may be sure to find all that favour which is offered in the gospel; and our comforts ebb or flow, according as our faith is stronger or weaker; we are not straitened in Christ, let us not then be straitened in ourselves.
Matthew Henry’s Commentary on the Whole Bible

We simply require Faith to move forward, whether we are Believers or non-Believers – for we all have Faith in something or someone.

Incredibly placed and even more profoundly presented is the manner in which “Faith” is presented to us in God’s Word.  The amount of Faith that others will see and experience that do not know God the Father, the Lovely Lord Jesus Christ and have the indwelling of the Holy Spirit is through US – you and me.  We have the opportunity and the awesome responsibility to demonstrate that Faith in our every day walk with our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ.  According to your FAITH, be IT in YOU.

There are two direct mentions of “Faith” in the Old Testament (OT) which are included as reference and then 229 direct mentions of “Faith” in the New Testament.  Each of those references are included in this portion of the Series as each one was studied out and 36 of them chosen to build this Series.
